GUADALAJARA, Mexico, August 24, 2021 - Seven
teams will compete in the Women’s NORCECA
Continental Championship, that grants two
tickets to the 2022 FIVB World Championship in
the Netherlands and Poland, starts on Thursday
26 at Arena Astros in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Teams are divided in two groups, Pool A
consisting of United States, Canada and Puerto
Rico and Pool B with reigning NORCECA champion
Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Trinidad and
Tobago and host Mexico.
The NORCECA Championship was last held in San
Juan, Puerto Rico won by Dominican Republic
defeating the U.S. in five thrilling sets 3-2
(25-19, 25-23, 15-25, 20-24, 15-9), their second
title in the tournaments’ history. Dominicans
won their first NORCECA title in 2009 defeating
Puerto Rico.
United States, No.1 ranked team in the world,
has won a total of 8 gold medals, 12 silver and
3 bronze, while current NORCECA champion
Dominican Republic has 2 gold medals, 3 silvers
and 5 bronze medals, as the top ranked team
registered for the event.
Cuba, top winner of the event with 13 titles in
store, 7 silver and 2 bronze medals, was not
able to attend.
Host Mexico has one gold medal and 3 bronze,
Canada, who finished third in the last edition,
has won 2 silver and 9 bronze medals; Puerto
Rico has one silver and 3 bronze.
Pool winner’s advance into semifinals, second
and third places will contest in quarterfinals.
